Reflexology therapies are natural therapeutic methods derived from this study based on the principle that there are reflexes in the body that map neurologically to other parts, glands and organs of the body.” – Reflexology Association of Canada, 2016

Along with the definition above, I usually describe reflexology as a therapy where pressure is applied to specific points in the body (in foot reflexology this would be the feet and ankles) to release tension in certain parts of the body. Although a typical foot reflexology treatment would begin with some gentle foot massage techniques, reflexology is more similar to acupressure/acupuncture in that pressure is applied to specific points, sometimes following a certain protocol, depending on the clients individual needs.

In my practice the pressure used is quite gentle, and a foot reflexology session with me is an extremely relaxing experience.
