I felt trapped, I knew I didn’t want a life of pushing through Migraine pain.
When I first realized I was having Migraine attacks, I knew I didn’t want a life of pushing through migraine pain. I had a rough time after the birth of my first child. I developed post-partum anxiety, hardly got any sleep, and after being nauseous for 9 months celebrated feeling hungry again by making a lot of poor food choices. Then, about 8 months postpartum I woke up with a pounding sensation behind my left eye. I started to move and it intensified – it felt like a pick being driven into the side of my head. I quickly began to feel angry and frustrated. I knew exactly what this was. Snapshots from my childhood started to play in my mind. My mom, lying in a dark room for days every month. Us kids missing time with our mother, wondering why she had to sleep so much…
Was this going to be my future too?
I always believed from a young age, that we weren’t meant to live in pain. Even despite seeing so many around me pushing through their migraine pain and heavy painful bleeds. This couldn’t be right, I wasn’t going to be stuck, and I was going to explore the options. Feeling this way as a child led me to a lifelong interest in natural healing. I spent my late teens and 20s exploring herbalism and menstrual cycle tracking. I started living in flow with my cycle and was later able to use this deep understanding of my body as natural birth control and to support myself getting pregnant. And later, when I was looking for a career change, it made sense to pursue Reflexology Therapy specifically to support reproductive health, fertility and maternity. For me, this paid off incredibly for my personal health.
Because of this background, when I was experiencing these migraines I knew they were related to ovulation. I went to my doctor, where exploring the hormonal aspect was quickly dismissed, however I also had an incredible Naturopath to set me up with some supplements and my Reproductive Reflexology training to give me the ability to energetically shift my body’s state. I made some small lifestyle changes, kept up with daily self-reflexology, breathwork and meditation, and nourished my body though better diet and supplements. In just a couple months I was back to the mild headaches, and a couple more months I was completely migraine-free.
It really wasn’t until I started training in modalities to release head & neck tension that I thought about supporting clients with hormonal migraines. So, almost 2 years ago I decided to give it a try and started taking on case studies. Every single migraine client has seen a reduction both in frequency and intensity! Some, after decades of pushing through, now have the capacity to tackle other life goals around starting a business, losing weight, or spending more time caring for their grandkids. I know for myself, when I got my migraines mastered, I was able to more fully enjoy the time with my baby while on mat leave. And I want that to be possible for everyone that suffers from migraines, particularly if there is a hormonal component. Hormones can be supported and shifted – there is hope – and I believe you don’t need to suffer through the pain.
As of June 7, 2022 I currently have space for a 2-3 more in-studio migraine clients.
